About the Role
Mediusware is looking for a discovery-focused Product Designer who can investigate complex business problems, uncover genuine user needs, challenge assumptions, and validate solutions before they are built.
This is not primarily a UI design or Figma-production role. We already have designers who can create polished interfaces. We need someone who can lead the thinking that comes before the interface: understanding what should be built, why it matters, and how we know the proposed solution will work.
You will collaborate closely with clients, Product Managers, Tech Leads, designers, and engineers throughout the product lifecycle. Your work will span discovery, research, problem definition, workflow design, prototyping, validation, delivery, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Do
Product Discovery and Problem Definition
- Understand business goals, product context, user needs, and technical constraints.
- Participate in client discussions to uncover the real problem behind an initial request.
- Ask thoughtful questions and challenge weak or unsupported assumptions constructively.
- Turn unclear business requirements into well-defined user and product problems.
- Identify knowledge gaps, risks, assumptions, and areas requiring validation.
- Help teams decide what should be built, why it should be built, and what success should look like.
User Research and Validation
- Plan and conduct user interviews, stakeholder interviews, contextual inquiries, and usability tests.
- Define research questions and select practical research methods based on the problem.
- Synthesize research findings into actionable insights, patterns, and opportunities.
- Separate evidence from assumptions and communicate the limitations of available research.
- Create hypotheses and design lightweight experiments to test them.
- Validate proposed solutions before significant development investment.
- Use customer feedback, product data, and observed behavior to improve released products.
Experience and Workflow Design
- Map user journeys, end-to-end workflows, task flows, and information architecture.
- Simplify complex B2B, SaaS, web, or mobile product workflows.
- Explore multiple solution directions rather than immediately committing to one interface.
- Create sketches, wireframes, and interactive prototypes for learning and validation.
- Design experiences that balance user needs, business value, and technical feasibility.
- Produce clear UX specifications and interaction guidance for implementation.
Collaboration and Delivery
- Work closely with Product Managers and Tech Leads throughout discovery and delivery.
- Facilitate discovery workshops, problem-framing sessions, and collaborative design activities.
- Present research findings and explain the evidence behind design decisions.
- Communicate trade-offs clearly to clients, product teams, and engineering teams.
- Collaborate with UI designers when polished visual design is required.
- Review implemented experiences and identify gaps between the intended and delivered solution.
- Support design-system improvements where they strengthen usability and consistency.
Product Learning and Improvement
- Define appropriate signals or metrics for evaluating product outcomes.
- Review how released features perform and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Treat delivery as part of an ongoing learning process rather than the end of the design process.
- Help strengthen Mediusware’s discovery, research, and validation practices.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of relevant experience in product design, UX design, UX research, or a similar role.
- Demonstrated experience conducting product discovery and user research.
- Strong ability to frame problems before proposing solutions.
- Experience planning and conducting user interviews and usability testing.
- Ability to synthesize research into clear findings and actionable product decisions.
- Strong understanding of UX principles, interaction design, information architecture, and usability.
- Practical experience designing SaaS, B2B, web, or mobile products.
- Experience mapping complex workflows and simplifying difficult user journeys.
- Ability to create wireframes and prototypes for testing ideas.
- Ability to explain not only what was designed, but why decisions were made and how they were validated.
- Strong facilitation, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Confidence working directly with clients, Product Managers, designers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Working proficiency in Figma, including components, auto layout, and interactive prototyping.
Advanced visual design ability is valuable, but it is not the primary selection criterion for this position.
You’ll Stand Out If You Have
- Experience leading discovery workshops or structured problem-framing sessions.
- Experience conducting research for complex B2B SaaS products.
- Experience working with ambiguous or incomplete requirements.
- Understanding of product analytics, success metrics, and data-informed design.
- Experience with assumption mapping, experiment design, or hypothesis-driven product development.
- Experience contributing to or improving design systems.
- Familiarity with AI-powered products, AI-assisted workflows, or human-AI interaction.
- Experience working in an agency, software company, or client-service environment.
- Experience aligning different stakeholder groups around evidence-based product decisions.
This Role May Not Be a Fit If
- Your experience is mainly converting finalized requirements into attractive screens.
- Your portfolio focuses primarily on visual presentation without showing the underlying problem-solving process.
- You typically begin designing before understanding users, context, constraints, and assumptions.
- You have limited experience speaking with users, conducting research, or testing solutions.
- You prefer receiving detailed instructions instead of helping define the problem.
- You are uncomfortable challenging assumptions or discussing trade-offs with stakeholders.
What We Expect to See in Your Portfolio
Your portfolio should include at least one detailed product case study demonstrating:
- The original business or user problem
- What was initially unknown or uncertain
- Your specific role and level of ownership
- Research questions and methods
- Evidence collected from users or stakeholders
- Assumptions identified or challenged
- How findings affected the product direction
- Workflows, journeys, prototypes, or experiments created
- How the proposed solution was tested
- Trade-offs and constraints considered
- What changed because of your work
- Results, outcomes, or lessons learned
Polished UI screens alone will not be sufficient. We are more interested in your reasoning, evidence, decisions, and learning process than in visual presentation quality.
Interview Process
The selection process may include:
- Initial discussion about your discovery and research experience.
- Portfolio review focused on your reasoning, evidence, and contribution.
- A practical product-discovery or problem-framing exercise.
- Final discussion with product and engineering leadership.
Any practical exercise will evaluate how you ask questions, identify assumptions, structure research, and reason through uncertainty. It will not be a visual design competition.
Why Join Mediusware?
